Manchester United are one of the most successful football clubs in the world, this season has seen them for the 20th time become champions of England with four games left to play until the end of the season. The club has an exciting history it was originally founded in 1878 under the name of Newton Heath LYR Football Club; this was then changed to Manchester United in 1902. The distinctive red Manchester United Home Shirt has been worn throughout much of the clubs history with a brief period between 1894-96 where the team wore green and gold shirts. These green and gold shirts were the original Newton Heath colours from when the workers on the Lancashire and Yorkshire railway originally formed the club. In recent history supporters have protested against the clubs finances and owners the Glazer family, due to the debt incurred by this family supporters felt that ticket prices had risen unjustly.

During the Carling Cup final in 2010 many supporters wore green and gold in protest against the Glazer family ownership, they wanted to secure a better future for their club the aim being that supporters would own it. Despite the financial rumblings Manchester United and manager Alex Ferguson have managed to maintain a consistently impressive record of honours and title achievements. Alex Ferguson has been the Manchester United manager since 1986 making him the longest serving manager in club history with the most honours won as manager. During his time at the club he has seen some of the most memorable players to wear a Manchester United home shirt play outstanding football including Eric Cantona, Ryan Giggs, Peter Schmeichel and David Beckham. With the end of the Premier League season rapidly approaching it is soon time for the summer transfer window to open.

Alex Ferguson has a strong team and generally likes to wrap up transfers as early as possible. Alex Ferguson has said he has identified some summer targets whom he would like to see wearing a Manchester United home shirt next season, however the vice chairman Ed Woodward has voiced a different opinion. Woodward has said they have at least 22 international standard players and there is very little need for a "major retooling of the squad". Alex Ferguson has admitted he does not have the spending power of Chelsea or Manchester City but is confident he has identified some key finds who will "enhance us, make us better or help us maintain the level we're at". It will be an interesting summer as the transfers materialise who do you think Alex Ferguson is interesting in acquiring?
