Puma manufacturer the Palermo kit
The German sportswear company Puma are the current manufacturers of the Palermo ranges and prior to this it was Joma. As of 1905, Palermo adopted a new colour scheme of pink and black for their home and away kits. This colour combination was introduced as their signature blue and red scheme was used widely throughout the football world, thus wanted to be easily identified. The decision was also backed by Count Giuseppe Airoldi, who said in a written letter regarding the colour scheme, that pink and black represent ‘sad and sweet’ which he felt portrayed the club’s victories and losses well.
Since the colour scheme was updated, the team adopted the nickname ‘Rosanero’ which translates to ‘The Pink-blacks’. They have also been referred to as the ‘Aquile’ which means ‘The Eagle’, although they are not as widely known by this anymore.
Founded by Ignazio Majo Pagano in the 1900s, the club was formerly known as Anglo Palermitan Athletic and Football club; however in 1987 they changed their name to US Citta di Palermo.
Situated 3.5 KM away from the historical centre of Palermo, resides the club’s home stadium. In 2002 the ground as named Stadio Renzo Barbera after the team’s former president, and prior to this was called Stadio La Favorita. The grounds seat over 35,000 of fan’s who attend the venue to showcase their support for their sacred team and wear the official shirts and Palermo football accessories in the signature pink and black colours.
