About Major League Soccer (MLS)
North and Central America did not have a major league soccer tournament until 1995 when the MLS was established. This was brought about because in exchange for being awarded the FIFA 1994 World Cup, US Soccer planned to set up a professional soccer league for the clubs across the country. During 1995 the tournament was a limited liability company and the teams only started playing in 1996. Ten teams then competed for the first ever MLS trophy and D.C United took the first one.
After only two seasons of the Major League Soccer tournament, they expanded the competition teams to include Miami Fusion and Chicago Fire. And during their first set of fixtures in the top USA league football, Chicago Fire took the 1998 trophy.
Unfortunately American soccer saw a decline shortly after these first few seasons; however it regained popularity after the 2002 World Cup was held in the USA. And throughout the years the MLS expanded its list of competitors to include Toronto FC, New York City FC and Orlando City Soccer club, and said goodbye to Tampa Bay and Miami Fusion.
Currently there are 24 teams in the MLS league, and as of 2020, the newly formed Inter Miami FC created by the UK sensation – David Beckham will join.
The Major Soccer League has two awards which are presented at the end of each season. The Supporters’ Shield is given to the MLS teams with the best record which is determined by the MLS point system. And since 2006, the winner of this shield is then awarded a berth in the CONCACAF Champions League. And the MLS Cup which is a post-season championship game where the winner is awarded the trophy via a playoff at the end of the regular season, just like the NFL, NHL and NBL.
Below we have broken down the list of MLS teams and when they have achieved the MLS Cup and the Supporters’ Shield. Reviewing both of these we can see that LA Galaxy currently have the strongest historic achievement within these awards.

Manufacturers of the American Club Shirts
As Nike is the largest sportswear manufacturer in the world, and they are based in the United States, we’d expect to see them as the current market leader for the MLS jerseys. However, when looking at the current 24 squads in the league it is apparent that Adidas produces all of the participating squads.
However, for the Liga MX squad jerseys here at Soccer Box you can find that they are produced by a wider variety of companies such as Puma, Under Armour, Macron and Nike. But when looking at the market for Mexican squad jerseys we can see that a large amount in their top flight league still wear local manufacturer – Charly.
