Vanishing spray also known as vanishing foam is a substance applied to an athletic field in order to provide a temporary visual marker. The vanishing foam is mostly used in the higher levels of football, it is said to help prevent unnecessary delays by the defensive team encroaching closer than the mandated 10 yards from the ball during a free kick, also preventing the attacking team from moving the ball from the spot where the free kick was awarded.
