History of the Chelsea Home Strip
Blue has always been synonymous with Chelsea football club; however, the shade of blue has evolved over the years. The clubs first shirt was a paler ‘Eton’ blue, which they wore from 1905-1912. The shirts were teamed with white shorts and dark blue or black socks. In 1912 the now familiar royal blue jersey was introduced. However, it was not until 1964 that the colour of the shorts was also changed to blue and white socks were introduced. This colour scheme has remained a consistent feature of the Chelsea home strip since 1960’s, and now is an iconic part of the team’s symbolism.
While the colour scheme of the Chelsea Nike home kit 20 21 may have remained consistent the styling has been changed and modernised with new kits being released regularly. Below we take a look at some of our favourite Chelsea shirts from the past, agree or disagree with our choice why not find us over on social media and tell which Chelsea home jersey your favourite was, and why.
- 1983/85: horizontal stripe home strip manufactured by Le Coq Sportif. Two tone blue with gold pinstripes and a faux colour block v-shaped neckline. Red and white neck and sleeve trim.
- 1989/91: retro two-tone blue diamond graphic on the shirt with blue, white and red collar and small front placket. Designed by Umbro this Chelsea top includes the CFC crest, and Commodore sponsor logo.
- 1997/99: primarily blue jersey featuring subtle vertical stripe design and including white under sleeve and flank panels. Oversized white collar with v-shaped neckline highlighted with yellow and navy stripes.
- 2006/08: the first Adidas Chelsea shirt. Sleek royal blue jersey with modern rounded neckline and collar, white piping on the shoulders, neckline and hems for a unique, premium look.
- 2019/20: manufactured by Nike this edition of the club’s tops oozes team pride. The royal blue jersey is overlaid with a darker blue graphic that merges each end of the team’s Stamford Bridge stadium to form a unique design.
In addition to the home kits we also stock the away and third football kits that offer more variation in colour scheme and design. Head over to the Chelsea away kit shop where you can check out these latest looks and maybe pick up the full range of team shirts.
Personalising the Chelsea shirt
When you shop for the official Nike Chelsea strip 20 21 here at Soccer Box you have several options for personalising your look. As previously mentioned, we stock the shirts, shorts and socks in a myriad of sizes enabling you to get the perfect fit.
For adult supporters you have the option of purchasing either the Vapor shirt or the replica stadium jersey. Both options are official products supplied to us by Nike. The Vapor shirt is more expensive and is an exact replica of the jerseys worn by the Chelsea footballers on match days, these shirts include advanced moisture management zonal technology and offer a more fitted style. The cheaper stadium jersey is the classic option bought by fans for many years, this shirt looks the same visually but offers a more comfortable, relaxed fit and uses Dri-Fit moisture management that perfectly suits the needs of supporters cheering on the team or having a friendly kick-about.
You can also opt to have your Chelsea FC home top personalised with official Premier League lettering and/or sleeve patches. These services incur a small additional fee, your shirt will be printed to order. As we stock the full alphabet you can choose a player name and squad number or choose your own name for an ultra-personalised look. Remember to check all spellings before submitting your order as mistakes cannot be rectified after a jersey is printed.
Chelsea Football Stadium
Unlike many other teams whose ground is a storied history of changing stadiums, Chelsea football club have only ever played at Stamford Bridge. This long-shared history between club and ground mean that players, management and fans all share a deep-rooted sentimentality about the land it stands on. With many other clubs moving on to larger, modern stadiums it is more difficult for Chelsea FC to realise such plans.
Below we take a brief look at some of the history and highlights at Stamford Bridge:
- Opened 1877
- Renovated 1904/05 and 1998
- Chelsea' Stamford Bridge ground 1905-present
- Highest recorded domestic match attendance 82,905 (1935)
- Today’s capacity 41,631
In recent years the club has laid out plans to both refurbish the Bridge into a 60,000 seat stadium and also made bids for other pieces of land with a view to starting anew with a brand new ground. However, as of May 2018 there are no current plans to do either. There was permission agreed to renovate the current site to allow for the larger capacity but due to economic forecasts neither option is currently viewed as viable.
The smaller size of the Chelsea ground means that there are less tickets available for each game, and many supporters never get the opportunity to watch the players in their Chelsea home strips live in action. If you are lucky enough to attend a game at Stamford Bridge, share your pictures and memories with us on social media we love hearing from other passionate football supporters.
