Iconic Chelsea Home Kit Colours

When you think of Chelsea, you instantly picture a bold blue jersey. But did you know that their signature royal blue colouring hasn’t always been their staple style? The first ever jersey was a paler shade called ‘Eton’ and was worn from 1905 to 1912. Just after then, is when the classic royal colour was introduced and it has stuck ever since.

• 2019/20: Created by Nike, this royal jersey is overlaid with a navy graphic that merges each end of the team’s Stamford Bridge stadium to form a unique and patriotic look.

Unlike many other teams whose ground is a storied history of changing stadiums, CFC have only ever played at Stamford Bridge. This long-shared history between club and ground mean that players, management and fans all share a deep-rooted sentimentality about the land it stands on. 

Below we take a brief look at some of the history and highlights at Stamford Bridge:

In recent years the club has laid out plans to both refurbish the Bridge into a 60,000 seat stadium and also made bids for other pieces of land with a view to starting anew with a brand new ground. However, as of May 2018 there are no current plans to do either. There was permission agreed to renovate the current site to allow for the larger capacity but due to economic forecasts neither option is currently viewed as viable. 

The smaller size of the ground means that there are less tickets available for each game, and many supporters never get the opportunity to watch the players live in action.
