Styling of the Liverpool Home Kit
Red is synonymous with the LFC as the squad has worn the colour for the vast majority of its history. In the early days they wore blue and white quartered tops. The first home shirt debuted in 1894, they wore the red top with white shorts until 1964 when Bill Shankley decided to trial an all-red attire. It was decided that wearing full crimson strip looked powerful and dangerous to opposition teams, the colour scheme remains to this date.
Each season a new range is launched, despite the iconic crimson base remaining the same, the manufacturer, currently Nike, manages to produce new and innovative designs. The red top is always popular, but some designs have proven to be more popular than others. Below we pick out some of our favourite Liverpool home soccer jerseys than have been released to date:
- 1982/83: Red LFC top designed by Umbro with white pinstripe design and white oversized v-shaped neckline and sleeve cuffs with red inserts.
- 1989/91: Iconic red with white abstract graphic pattern. Adidas shoulder stripes and logo, Candy sponsorship and monochrome crest.
- 1993/95: Bold top with diagonal three-stripe pattern on the sides, white and green trim around the collar and sleeve cuffs. Crest, Carlsberg and Adidas logo.
- 2008/10: Classic red top with white Adidas shoulder stripes and collar detail, crimson and white chequered design on the inside back with Liverbird logo.
- 2019/20: Slightly darker shade of red with subtle white pinstripe pattern and rounded neckline. white Nike logo and crest. White sleeve cuff detail and sponsor logo.
Supporters eagerly anticipate the launch of the latest top each season but remember that the crimson top isn’t the only one to be launched. Anfield Stadium
Unlike many other football clubs LFC does not have a long list of different stadiums and grounds, they have played at Anfield for their entire history. There was a plan, in the early 2000’s, to build a new stadium at Stanley Park, however new owners, Fenway Sports Group, struggled to finance the venture and opted to expand Anfield instead. Below we list some facts and figures about Anfield and how it has changed over years.
- 1884 - Anfield opened, originally occupied by Everton
- 1892 – Liverpool FC founded and moved into Anfield
- Original capacity of 20,000
- The Kop built in 1906
- Peak capacity of 60,000
- 1990’s converted to an all-seated stadium with capacity of 45,276
- 2015/16 increased capacity to 54,074
There are still plans to further expand the current Anfield site, however, due to restrictions and an ever-growing fanbase it is likely that at some point LFC will have to move-on. In the meantime, Anfield remains the iconic home of the club, and is a must-visit for all passionate supporters. You can shop for all your latest official Nike teamwear and accessories, in anticipation of your next trip to Anfield or simply be ready to cheer on the squad during their next game, here on our online store.
